Finding a niche for your online business

Find your nicheAre you considering starting your own online business?  Maybe as an affiliate marketer or to sell your own items or even as a blogger.  If your answer to that question is yes, then one of the important things you need to think about is the niche that you are going to choose to go into.

For some of us, this can seem like a very daunting task.  Usually, because we are overthinking the whole issue.   Your entire business venture will be tied to the niche that you select as this is one of the cornerstones that you will be growing your budding business on, but there’s no reason to stress yourself about it.

Someone totally new to the idea of netrepreneurship might be wondering at this point exactly what the heck I am talking about.  So let’s give a bit of a definition.  The word niche, when used in terms of a business on the internet, refers to a specific, targeted segment of the online market.  That specific audience that you will be targeting in your internet business.

How to find your niche

As I mentioned earlier choosing the segment for your business doesn’t have to be a huge task.  One way to do this is to look at the things that you are keenly interested in, the things that you are passionate about, and the hobbies that you have.

Make a list of these things.

Then from this list choose the one that you have the greatest interest in.  The one you have the most passion for.  It will probably also be the one that you are most knowledgeable about.

This choice can then be the segment of the market that you create your business in.  It can be said that success often follows passion and your keen interest could mean that you achieve success much faster.

Bear in mind though, that there are no bad segments.  Anything that you choose can be valid and result in you making money in your business.  There is absolutely no possibility of “choosing a wrong niche”

But what if you don’t have any burning passions, hobbies or interests.

Not to worry.  You can still find a market segment to be the core of your online business.

Is there something that you have wanted to learn and never got around to getting started?

Or maybe there is a need that you see.  Some product or service that you realize would help people and yet it is not available.

If your answer is yes, then these represent possible niche ideas.

You don’t have to be an expert in the area you select.  No, you don’t have to have a ton of knowledge about the area.  You can become an expert in any segment of the market that you select.

Another method you can use to find ideas involves doing a bit of research with Google online search tool.  To use this method you need to come up with a starting point.  For instance, let us use the word “diet” as our starting point.

Go to Google search www.google.com and type the word diet into the search window.  You will see that Google now gives you a suggestion listing of possible ideas.

Diet plans could represent a possible viable market segment.  Diet foods could as well.

Even if you can’t come up with any ideas at all as to what to use as a starting point.  You can simply type a letter into Google and look for any viable ideas from the suggestions.

Spend some time going through the alphabet letter by letter and making notes of the suggestions you find interesting.

Or type a combination of letters to generate other ideas.  Such as.

This whole alphabet soup idea might sound a little bit silly and maybe even childish at first but what you come up with may just knock your socks off.

Almost anything that you can think of can be a niche.  As long as there are people expressing an interest in it and searching for it online.
